These SmackGirls are tough! Professional Mixed Martial Artist, Debi Purcell had her first MMA loss to Hitomi Akano during SmackGirls’ Advent of Goddess on February 15th. Currently Debi Purcell is 4 and 1, defeating Nicole Albrect, Amy Pitan, Christine Van Fleet and Amber Mosely in the past. Here’s some additional info about her from her wiki:

Yuka Kobayashi, “The Idol of Karate” is a little karate terror in the ring. Although the video is strictly karate, Yuka currently fights with SmackGirl in more intense fights. Check out the video though, Yuka’ no Gina Carano, but interesting to watch this fireball.

We recently posted a thread about Japan’s SmackGirl fight league.  We mentioned some of the popular SmackGirl fighters and neglected to mention one of the top female fighters Erin Toughill.  We found a nice Hightlight video of Erin Toughhill that you just have to see.  At the end of the video she comes out hard as can be in the first round, throws a flying knee, puts her opponent in a muay thai clinch and goes to work.  This girl is hard hitting!

Time Magazine recently released an article about the growing nature of MMA and more specifically Woman’s MMA. We’ve talked a lot about US fighting and Thai fighting, so I thought it would be interesting to highlight Women’s MMA in Japan. Japan has a Female Fight League called SmackGirl. The rules are simply, no striking to the head while in ground position and ground fighting is limited to 30 seconds.

There are a number of popular female SmackGirl fighters out there including Hikaru Shinohara, Misaki Takimoto, Yukiko Seki, Haru Tajima, Hisae Watanabe, Atsuko Okada and more that you may want to search.
