The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale aired last night. The Light Heavyweight finalists for the night were Ryan Bader and favored Vinicius Magalhaes. The Lightweight finalists were Efrain Escudero and the favored toughest nurse in the world, Phillipe Nover. Both fights were an upset with the underdog taking home the six figure contract.
Ryan Bader def. Vinicius Magalhaes via TKO (strikes) – R1 (2:18)
The first finalist upset of the night was Bader vs Magalhaes. Bader came out with a gameplan to avoid clinching with Magalhaes as Magalhaes would be destine to take Bader to the mat. Bader stood up with Magalhaes exchanging strikes for the first two minutes until catching Vinny with a strong right which was deflected with Vinnys arm and just skimming Vinny’s temple. The strength of Bader’s punch was so powerful that this defended strike rocked him. Magalhaes hit the canvas and Bader pounced on him to finish the fight with strikes.
Efrain Escudero def. Phillipe Nover via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
Going into this fight the striking skills displayed by Phillipe Nover on the Ultimate Fighter had everyone convinenced that he would dominate this fight. But the wrestling dominance and improved striking of Efrain allowed Escudero to control the fight. Standup exchanges typically lasted a handful of strikes before Efrain would duck under a punch and take Nover down. Once on the ground, Escudero would control the fight with minor submission attempts and mild ground and pound. Nover’s attempts to submit Efrain from his back were immediately recognized by Escudero and avoided. In the end, Efrain took home the contract via a decision.

Junie Browning def. David Kaplan via submission (armbar) – R2 (1:32)
Junie’s striking skills looked much improved. It’s took bad that his personality hasn’t.
Wilson Gouveia def. Jason MacDonald via submission (strikes) – R1 (2:18)
MacDonald took a beating from the ground and pound of Gouveia who weighted in 4 pounds overweight and had to share his purse.
Anthony Johnson def. Kevin Burns via KO (head kick) – R3 (0:28)
Revenge! Their last fight ended in a controversal decision and Johnson having to get eye surgery from Burns’ finger pentrating his eye. Johnson finished the fight this time with a brutal high kick knock out in the third.
Eliot Marshall def. Jules Bruchez via submission (rear-naked choke) – R1 (1:27)
Eliot Marshall’s striking skills and ground game looked great, but than again, he was fight Jules.
Krzysztof Soszynski def. Shane Primm via submission (kimura) – R2 (3:27)
To the surprise of many, Shane looked very good with his striking skills, but in the end, the Gracie Tampa fighter Shane Primm lost to Krzysztof via a kimura that nearly ripped his shoulder out of his body.
