Houston Alexander’s Third Loss in a Row at Ultimate Fight Night, Plus Interview Video

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

Okay, I’m a total fan of Houston Alexander, I believe he’s an excellent striker and an exciting fighter, but it ends there. At UFC 78 I was disappointed to see Houston get totally manhandled when put on the mat by Thiago Silva. Houston Alexander totally looked like a fish out of water. Okay, so it happens all the time, a striker goes to the ground and is out of his element. He moves on, learns and becomes a better fighter. Well, this clearly is not the case with yesterday’s fight. It seemed as if he learned nothing from the fight with Silva. Houston relied on his stand up to finish the fight before it went to the mat. But that wasn’t the case… again… After being brought down to the mat in the second round, he once again was in the same position that he was in with Thiago Silva, this time with Eric Schafer.

So what does Houston have to say about this? Houston states that the conditioning was there, but he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Okay, wrong place, however, why not make it a familiar place and focus more on the ground game in training? His take down defense was definitely good as he states in the fulling interview, but in order to continue this profession, he has to become more familiar with being on his back.

Houston Alexander Back in the Octagon Against Eric Schafer Video

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

UFC fighter Houston Alexander has been out of the Octagon for a few months now.  He had some devastating losses to Thiago Silva at UFC 78 Validation and James Irvin Fight Night 13, lossing both fights in the first round…  James Irvin’s being the worst, a 8 second defeat!  Personally, I’m a fan of Houston Alexander, I think he’s a great fighter, but after these two losses, I wasn’t sure if we would see him in the UFC again.  However, the UFC believe in him, as they recently awarded him a 5 fight contract and have additionally given him an immediate try in the Octagon this Wednesday at UFC Fight Night 14 against Eric Schafer… to his advantage… in his hometown of Ohmaha Nebraska.  So what will  Houston Alexander do to prepare himself for the Octagon.  he states that he’s been in the business for some time now, he’s learning to adjust to fighters and he’s going to make the appropriate changes for his upcoming fight.  Watch the following interview to learn more about the upcoming fight.

UFC’s Houston Alexander AKA Super Dad!

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Yahoo’s Kevin Lole wrote an interesting profile of Houston Alexander this month.  The article talks about Houston’s life outside of the ring and how remarkably he’s a single parent of six children, between the ages of 5 and 16 and he does it all! “Admittedly, though, the image of one of mixed martial arts’ baddest men pushing a vacuum cleaner and cleaning a toilet is priceless. “But you tell all those UFC fans, they come to my house and they’ll see me pushing that vacuum,” he says, laughing. “I’m no different than they are. I have to clean the house, too.”" You can read the full article at Yahoo!

A Young Houston Alexander Fights Chuck Parmelee - Controversial Video

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Chuck Parmelee takes on Houston Alexander for the Tristate Ultimate Fighting Ultimate Championship.  The fight was extremely controversial as Houston didn’t want to continue fighting Chuck Parmelee as he was clearly greased up for the fight, making it difficult for Houston to finish him with a submission.  Check out the video to see what happens.

Houston Alexander “Muay Thai is No Joke” / UFC 78 Video Interview

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

“Muay Thai is No Joke” - that’s what Houston had to say in response to Anderson Silva beating Rich Franklin at UFC 77.  Fight Hype met up with Houston Alexander for a video interview after the fights at UFC 77 in Cincinatti.  Among the questions asked is how Houston Alexander feels about Keith Jardine beating Chuck Liddell, as Houston Alexander dominated Keith Jardine in the first round at UFC 71.  Houston’s approach is more or less, it is what it is, and it doesn’t bother him.  He talks about his upcoming fight with Thaigo Silva, which he seems very confident about.  Regarding the next top fighter… “any body”, Houston’s willing to fight anyone… What a bad ass.  You can watch the video below.
