UFC 80 Rapid Fire Fight Card Results

Monday, January 21st, 2008

UFC 80 Rapid Fire was yet another exciting UFC.  We’re been lucky, UFC 79 and 80 were very eventful.  UFC 80 was full of Knockout’s and exciting moments.  Here are the results of the night:

  • Sam Stout defeated Per Eklund Decision (Unanimous)
  • Alessio Sakara defeated James Lee TKO (Strikes) - this was a quick fight ending eary into the first round.  James Lee tried to take down Sakara, Sakara while escaping the take down threw a barrage of hammer fists and won!
  • Paul Kelly beat Paul Taylor via Decision (Unanimous) - this was an exciting fight that went the distance.  Both Kelly and Taylor threw down rapidly as soon as they entered the first round.  There was a lot of ground and pound by Kelly, which ultimately gave him the decision.
  • Antoni Hardonk won against Colin Robinson 17 second into the first.  This was a crazy win, Antoni throw a series of Muay Thai kicks to the calf / shin of Robinson.  Robinson fell down and couldn’t get up.
  • Jorge Rivera shocked Kendall Grove with a quick TKO in the first.  Rivera overwhelmed Grove with a takedown and a barrage of punches as he attempted to escape.  Grove caught a shot on the button and was over.
  • Wilson Gouveia knocked out Jason Lambert in the second.  After being dominated in the first, Gouveia threw a left hook dropping Lambert with a single punch.
  • Marcus Davis caught Jess Liaudin on the button and KO’s Jess in the first round - 1:04
  • Fabricio Werdum defeated Gabriel Gonzaga via aTKO (Strikes)  4:34 into the second
  • B.J. Penn won against Joe Stevenson - After cutting Stevenson badly, Penn defeated Stevenson with a Rear-Naked Choke in the second round.  The entire fight Penn overwhelmed Stevenson - he didn’t have a chance.

UFC 80 Faces of Arianny Celeste

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

My friend over at Cage Potato came up with a unique idea - to analyze the faces of Arianny Celeste as different fighters weigh in for their UFC 80 fights.  Granted, you can grab any frame that you want, the concept is still hilarious.  These guys are quite witty with all of their threads, this is just another example.  Here’s a quick quote without the UFC.com images - we don’t do that bad boy stuff; “Jason Lambert bores her… …and James Lee doesn’t do a whole lot for her either…” Check out what they have to say over at Cage Potato.

Joe Stevenson Training for BJ Penn UFC 80 Fight, Video

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Raw Vegas recently interviewed Joe Stevenson at the Cobra Kai gym in Vegas regarding his upcoming UFC 80 title fight against BJ Penn. Joe was asked how he feels about this title shot. He states that’s his dream since he started watching the sport at age 11. Raw Vegas show some training action with Coach Marc Laimon. Joe was working heavily on his ground game in the footage. Considering that Joe is fighting an exceptional ground fighter, this would make a lot of sense for his training regime.

You can see the Joe Stevenson training for UFC 80 BJ Penn fight video below.

UFC 80 Rapid Fire MMA Girls Prediction Video

Monday, January 7th, 2008

The MMA girls give their predictions on UFC 80 Rapid Fire. The first Prediction is BJ Penn vs. Joe Stevenson, although Joe is an underdog which she loves to pick, she’s going to go with BJ, because… well, because she didn’t say. The next Gabriel Gonzaga vs Fabricio Werdum. She gives the fight to Gabriel because of his excellent stand up. Marcus Davis vs Jess Liaudin - Marcus’ ground stills are catching up with his boxing skills and had an excellent last fight, so she’s going with Marcus. Alright.. that’s it for me, there’s some more predictions from the MMA Girls, you’ll have to watch it to see it… there’s a nice little Wanderlei death chop at the end.

UFC 80 Rapid Fire - Getting Closer to a Full Card

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

As we get closer to UFC 79, the details of UFC 80 Rapid Fire are beginning to emerge. It has been known for some time that the main event of the evening will be the interim UFC Lightweight Championship between BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson. We also know that rivals Fabricio Werdum and Gabriel Gonzaga will face off. The UFC has now announced that it’s going to feature some local talent and new blood for the undercard. James Lee will take on Alessio Sakara, Per Eklund will take on hard hitting Sam Stout, Paul Kelly will take on Paul Taylor. The event will go down in Newcastle England, and as you may remember, the UK events are typically broadcasted free in the US. Rumor has it, CBS and the UFC are currently in negotiations over broadcasting rights. The event may be free to all if the negotiations soon get settled.

Dana White to “Probably” Strip Sean Sherk of Title

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

According to the Fight Network, “UFC president Dana White revealed today he will “probably” strip UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk of his title if his positive steroids test is not overturned by the California State Athletic Commission when it reconvenes in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Dec. 4.” In the mean time, BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson will face off at UFC 80 for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship title. UFC 80 will take place on January 19, 2008, so there’s a good possibility “interim” will be converted into “The UFC Lightweight Championship”. It will be interesting to see the results, possibly Sherk will be an example to up and coming fighters considering the possibility of using performance enhancing drugs.

UFC’s Houston Alexander AKA Super Dad!

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Yahoo’s Kevin Lole wrote an interesting profile of Houston Alexander this month.  The article talks about Houston’s life outside of the ring and how remarkably he’s a single parent of six children, between the ages of 5 and 16 and he does it all! “Admittedly, though, the image of one of mixed martial arts’ baddest men pushing a vacuum cleaner and cleaning a toilet is priceless. “But you tell all those UFC fans, they come to my house and they’ll see me pushing that vacuum,” he says, laughing. “I’m no different than they are. I have to clean the house, too.”" You can read the full article at Yahoo!
