I am very sorry to say that former UFC middleweight Champion Evan Tanner had passed away yesterday.  According to Sports Illustrated, Tanner went into the desert on a trip to “cleanse himself”.  This was nothing new to the outdoorsman, who often went on similar trips.  While on the trip apparently Tanner’s motorcycle ran out of gas and he was force to walk through the desert at 115-118 degree heat.  According to the report, “He was miles away from his camp. That’s where the helicopter found him. Right now, they just think that he succumbed to the heat.”

Ironically Tanner had blogged on the Spike TV website about his plans to go on this journey.  According to the report, Evan Tanner stated, “I plan on going so deep into the desert, that any failure of my equipment, could cost me my life”.  After readers vocalized their considers about this journey, Tanner replied, “This isn’t a version of ‘Into the Wild,’” according to Sports Illustrated, he wrote; “I’m not going out into the desert with a pair of shorts and a bowie knife, to try to live off the land. I’m going fully geared up, and I’m planning on having some fun.”
