I really hate hearing all the news about steroids in the UFC. I was totally impressed with the shape that Chris Leben was in for his UFC 89 fight against Bisping. Leben was looking totally ripped up for the event and I was happy to see him doing well for himself. Unfortunately, there was a catch. According to the UFC, “Chris Leben tested positive for the anabolic agent stanozolol following his October 18th loss to Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC 89″. Dana White commented “To his credit, he has taken responsibility for his actions and is accepting the punishment that has been handed down. But as always, the UFC puts the safety of its athletes first and foremost, and we won’t tolerate anyone using performance enhancing drugs in our organization.”

What did Leben have to say.  According to the UFC, “I’ve really done everything I can to turn my life around, and this is a huge setback for me, but it is something I will have to deal with. During my time off from fighting, I want to speak to kids about the dangers of using performance enhancing agents and let them know it just doesn’t get you ahead in life. Of course this is a hard hit for me monetarily, but more so this is embarrassing for me and for all of my fans. I apologize to the UFC and everyone who supported me in my fight in England. I hope to work through this and get back to fighting soon”

ESPN just posted some weigh in pictures for tonight’s UFC 89 (that will be live free on Spike TV) and I gotta say “Dang!” Chris Leben is looking Shredded, a like a new guy. He appears to have a few new tats, some cornrows and a six pack. Hawaii has been good to him? We’ll see tonight. Check out the weigh in video was well, Leben’s at the end.

This is one good fight trailer, sure to get you pumped up for the Chris Leben vs Michael Bisping UFC 89 fight. When I heard about this fight, I wasn’t too thrilled, but after watching this trailer, there are a lot of points to get excited about. Both fighters have a great offense, they come at their opponents hard and put a lot into it. Bisping is going to come in a lot stronger and faster at 185lb vs his previous 205lb. He’s full of confidence and will really push the pace. On the other side, you have a new Chris Leben who’s been training in Hawaii really getting his life together. He always comes strong, isn’t afraid to get hit and will take a punch and come back much harder.  I’m expecting a good fast paced fight.. Looking forward to UFC 89.

It looks like Chris Leben is having a ball in Hawaii while getting in some great mental and physical training.  He’s currently training with Icon Fitness in Hawaii.  He’s loving the people, weather, food and culture of Hawaii.  The people that he’s working with think he’s made an amazing transformation, he has matured a lot and is doing very well.  Leben feels ready for his upcoming fight with Mike Bisping, he thinks that their paths have crossed and the fight needs to happy to help settle who’s fit to be the champ of their division.

In addition to Leben doing so well at Icon Fitness, Steven Saito who additionally trains at Icon is doing very well too.  Although he has only one fight under his belt, Steven is already being offered a title shot.  I don’t know much about Steven, but he just dominated in an X-1 World Events Fight.  We’ll keep an eye out for him.

After recently scheduling upcoming June 7th London fight against UFC Fighter Michael Bisping, Chris Leben and his people knew that they had to work out some left over baggage from a 2005 DUI arrest in Oregon.  According to Sherdog.com, Chris Leben turned himself in to local authorities hoping that it would ease the process allowing him to secure a visa for London.  According to Sher, Leben has 35 days to serve.  For the full article, visit sherdog.com.

Coming off of a sweet victory over Terry Martin at Ultimate Fight Night 11, Chris Leben is getting ready to face off with Alessio Sakara at UFC 82.  The event will take place on March 1, 2008 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio, the same night that Anderson Silva will take on Dan Henderson for the UFC Middleweight championship.  Henderson’s coming off of a loss in which he had a light heavyweight title shot against Quinton Rampage Jackson.  Henderson didn’t get the Light Heavyweight Belt, now he’s getting a shot at the light heavyweight belt?  How does that work?  Shouldn’t there be some fights in between?  I guess that Henderson’s performance against Rampage, which was a very close fight all the way, is enough to give him that shot for the middleweight belt.  Although in my opinion, Anderson Silva is going to be a tougher battle for Henderson.

This is one of the fights that I was really looking forward to. Heavy handers Chris Leben takes on Terry Martin. Not only did Terry Martin enter the ring looking trim, but Chris the Crippler Leben came out looking trim as well. In fact, he looks the most muscular and trim that I’ve ever seen him. He’s been training and helping run an MMA School out in Hawaii. Not only did Leben look physically healthier, but his style has much improved. He has greatly slowed down his pace to conserve energy – no longer looking for that highlight knock out.

Both fighter exchanges some punches in the first, Leben utilized a lot of inside leg kicks. This continued into the second, where Leben gets a triangle, but does not finish Martin. Going into the third but men look exhausted. Leben must have tired out from his triangle attempt and exchanges slow punches with Martin. Both men look like they’re ready to fall over from exhaustion. Late in the third Martin lands a huge right almost putting Leben on the mat, after saying “What’s up, come get some more”, Leben comes in with agression, lands a few punches and Chris ends the fight with a huge highlight reel left hook knocking Terry out cold.

Rumor has it that Mike Swick will be rematching Chris Leben for UFC 76! Swick is expected to drop down to welterweight. For those of you who WEC 9 back in 2004, Leben dropped Swick in the second round with a straight left. Swick has improved greatly since this fight in 2004, so expect a battle.
