UFC 93 Results: Mark Coleman is Old, Rua Should Retire, Chris Lytle Fights for Money Only?

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

The Fight Results for UFC 93, the first ever UFC in Ireland are in and well, the event was far for exciting.  Starting from the main event, Dan Henderson defeated Rich Franklin via a split decision. Starting off the match, Henderson’s stand up, although known to be lesser than Franklin’s proved to be effective in knocking Rich down.  Following up with his ground skills, Henderson overwhelmed Franklin with his ground game, making it extremely difficult for Rich Franklin to stand up.  Although Franklin’s stand up proved dominate in the second and third, Henderson was simply able to take Franklin down multiple times to win the decision.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua… it’s time to retire.  Midway through the first, MMA Legend Mark Coleman was completely gassed.  Cutting to 205lb for the first time ever, combined with his ripe age of 44, Coleman was no where near fit for a fight with a 27 year old.  However… Coleman held his own and just barely made it into the second round.  Going into the second round, it appeared as if Coleman was going to fall over from exhaustion, however he withstood any pressure put on my Rua and eventually reversed in by the end of the second.  In the third round Rua was now exhausted!  Coleman, still completely exhausted controlled Rua by continously taking him down.  With only 30 seconds or so left in the third, Rua clinched Coleman while Coleman was on the ground and delivered a knee (although close to the face) to the body of Coleman.  The ref saw the knee as illegal, stood the two fighters up, and Rua got a present with a TKO at 4:36 of round three.

As for the remaining fights of the night:

  • John Hathaway defeats Tom Egan, TKO at 4:36 of round one.
  • Rousimar Palhares defeats Jeremy Horn, unanimous decision.
  • Alan Belcher defeats Denis Kang, guillotine choke at 4:36 of round two.
  • Marcus Davis defeats Chris Lytle, split decision.

Can I just say, is it me or is Chris Lytle clearly making deals looking for fight of the night?  Does this guy fight intellegently any longer?  Well, perhaps from a financial standpoint he does…
Hopefully UFC 94 will make up for this event… in the mean time, let me find you some pics of the ring girls to help make up for the PPV costs.

Friday, July 4th, 2008

ESPN interviews Josh Koscheck regarding his UFC 86 fight tomorrow night with Chris Lytle. Koscheck states that he can’t say anything bad about Lytle, he’s a real standup fighter. Josh is looking to come out and dominate the fight.

Koscheck responds by saying that he had to think about fighting Koscheck for a second. He’s been fighting really well and punishing people and it made him think for a second. Overall, Chris says, expect the best fight of the night.
