Gina Carano vs Kelly Kobold EliteXC Heat
Wednesday, October 8th, 2008You know, the entire Gina Carano vs Kelly Kobold fight was really overlooked due to the Kimbo Slice vs Seth Petruzelli upset. And although one would expect the dust to settle by now, it hasn’t, due to the more recent accusation from Seth that EliteXC promoters paid him to stand up with Kimbo. So, let’s highlight Gina Carano for a moment. Once again Gina tore it up. The first round of the fight was fairly even matched. Kobold continued to attempt to take Gina down, but her Xtreme Couture grappling skills showed as she defended the take downs. After defending the take down attempts, Gina went toe to toe with Kobold exchanging punches. Gina landed the majority of the strikes, while Kobold missed the great majority. As the round progress Gina continued to pick Kobold apart and won via decision - 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27.
For more personally, it was one of the more exciting fights of the night, and what did Gina make for fighting? $15,000 + $10,000 win bonus, while Kimbo made a nice clean $500,000. Insane, right? I know that Kimbo is the bigger draw, but I’d argue that Gina is more of a draw than $500,000 Andrei Arlvoski. Where’s the parity?
