Michelle Waterson Will be Fighting Van Do Milnes at ROF 30

Monday, August 13th, 2007

In a recent post titled Fight Girl Michelle Waterson Soon to Fight - Ring of Fire 30,
we stated that Michelle Waterson will have an upcoming Ring of Fire fight in Colorado. In this post we mentioned that we do not know who she will be fighting. Thanks to a recent post on the Fight Girls Forum, we learned that Michelle Waterson will be fighting Van Do Milnes from Cung Le Martial Arts. Van Do is currently 4 and 3, with the following championships under her belt:

  • 2002 USAWKF National Champion (Gold)
  • 2003 Battle at Columbus San Shou (Gold)
  • 2003 USA National San Shou Team Member
  • 2005 USA Nation San Shou Team Member
  • 2005 IKF USA Featherweight Champion

Van Do Milnes fought Fight Girl’s Ardra Hernandez at K-1 WGP Las Vegas 2007 and won by chasing down Ardra and winning with an unanimous decision.
A little bit about Van Do from her the Cung Le website:

” Van is a prime example that you can never be too old or too busy for picking up a passion for fighting. She was born in Saigon, Vietnam as the third child and first daughter. Her father was overjoyed about breaking the monotony of sons, and he knew then that she would become a good example of modern woman. Even in the Vietnamese society of male dominance, Van’s parents never expected any less from her than they would from their two sons. Education and a good career was always the key to a successful life…” Source Cung Le

Michelle Waterson vs. Ardra Hernandez Fight Girls Review

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Last night Fight Girls premiered the Michelle Waterson vs. Ardra Hernandez fight.  Ardra Hernandez has a wealth of experience in Muay Thai, so going into the fight, Michelle Waterson was the clear underdog.  The fight opened up with a lot of emotional tension - the girls clearly had a friendship bond between them that was getting in the way of throwing down..  After some patty caking, Michelle opened the fight up with a solid right hand punch to break the tension.

For the majority of the fight, Michelle was on the defense… Michelle threw a few nice punches in the first and second round, but was clearly overpowered by Ardra Hernandez’s no stop attack.  Michelle Waterson managed to pull off a nice thai clench in the third, and had some knees while in the clench, but to all of our disappointment, she was unable to steal the round.  Ardra ended up winning with a unanimous decision, and clearly deserved the win.  This fight was a great stepping stone for Michelle, and will offer invaluable experience for this young fighter.  Check out the pictures from the Oxygen website or each girl below:
