Vaseline Application to GSP Changes UFC Cornerman Rules

Friday, February 13th, 2009

We’re all tired of hearing about the GSP Vaseline controversy regarding his cornerman applying Vaseline to his back in between rounds.  We’ve heard the stories over and over again, “GSP had an advantage”, “BJ could have beat him”, “It’s ruining the integrity of the sport”.  Well, we finally have some closer to the deal.  The UFC spent some time analyzing their current cornermen rules and have decided to make some changes.  According to Sports Illustrated Magazine, the new rules stated:

“UFC has now instructed that cornermen associated with the fighters will no longer be allowed to handle the Vaseline used in between rounds to treat and prevent cuts. The UFC will now provide one cut man for each corner for the fight. Only two people are allowed to enter the Octagon between rounds so if a cut man is necessary to apply Vaseline or work on a cut, one of the other cornermen working with the fighter must exit the cage to allow the cut man to work.”

Georges St. Pierre Puts Vaseline on His Backside? Video Included

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

As well have all heard by now, a lame controversy regarding Georges St. Pierre’s win over BJ Penn is that he put excessive grease on his back.  Although these accusations are made, and not yet confirmed whether or not he did or didn’t, there’s no specific clause by the Nevada Athletic Commission that addresses “excessive grease” being applied to a fighter and therefore does not violate any written rules.  However, that’s not to say that it doesn’t violate unwritten law among combat fighters.  The bottom line, GSP whooped BJ Penn,  get over it!

How to be a UFC Fighter Video with BJ Penn

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

I have no clue how they got BJ Penn to be apart of this “funny” How to be a UFC Fighter Video which included an overabundance of “fluffy bunny” comedy… But they did.  They managed to pull off one funny “lesson”, being Lesson 1: All fighters must have a hardcore entrance.  Check out Ryan’s entrance as he stares down the camera, that’s pretty good.  But other than that… Lesson 2: Good Stance - Use the Crane, Lesson 3: Stand Up, Lesson 4: Submissions… etc etc, didn’t do it for me.  But, maybe you’ll get a kick out of it.

Joe Stevenson Training for BJ Penn UFC 80 Fight, Video

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

Raw Vegas recently interviewed Joe Stevenson at the Cobra Kai gym in Vegas regarding his upcoming UFC 80 title fight against BJ Penn. Joe was asked how he feels about this title shot. He states that’s his dream since he started watching the sport at age 11. Raw Vegas show some training action with Coach Marc Laimon. Joe was working heavily on his ground game in the footage. Considering that Joe is fighting an exceptional ground fighter, this would make a lot of sense for his training regime.

You can see the Joe Stevenson training for UFC 80 BJ Penn fight video below.
