Ultimate Fight Night 17 was an eventful night.  Joe Lauzon took on the hard hitting Jeremy Stephens for the main event of the night.  Stephens came out strong early in the first with some bombs.  Lauzon wanted nothing to do with it and avoided all strikes and took Stephens to the ground immediately.  Lauzon attempted multiple submissions in the first, but was unsuccessful in finishing the fight that round.  The second round Lauzon continued his submission attempts and finally ended the fight with an armbar 4:43 in the second round.  Joe’s ground game looked outstanding, I can’t wait to see his next preformance.

The UFC just announced that the next UFC Fight Night will take place at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida on February 7th 2009. The headliner for the night will be Joe Lauzon vs Hermes Franca. Also fighting that night is The Ultimate Fighter’s Mac Danzig vs Josh Neer. If you’re interested in buying tickets on presale, the newsletter password which allows you to purchase a day before the general public, is “LIVE”. This password can be used on Sunday, December 21st.

The results from the Ultimate Fight Night 13 are in… a bit late. But what a night and for free… it was hella good!

  • What? Yeaaaaaah! Houston Alexander got dropped with none other than a superman punch and lost 8 seconds into the fight. I could not believe it. James Irvin has a way with pulling off some crazy highlight reels. Like the time he dropped Terry Martin in the beginning of the second round with a flying knee. This guy can be incredible!

  • Anthony Johnson was a total maniac, amazing strikes with pinpoint accuracy. One heck of a fight.

  • Total shock to me.. I know I called Lauzon to win the fight, but K Flow put a hurtin on Lauzon.  He totally controlled the fight and took home the victory in Round 2.

I’ve never been much of a betting man, but I become more interested in betting odds when UFC 82 came around. I learned a little bit about the odds and made my prediction for the night, which was on the money. So today I checked out the odds for Ultimate Fight Night 13 on Bet Us and this is what we’re looking at:

• Can this be right? Same odds, looks odd, no pun intended. I’m a total newb, so let me know…

Put down 180 to make 100 on Joe Lauzon? I’m pretty confident that Joe’s going to finish Kenny, this will be a great fight. If I had to make a bet of all three, I’d put my money on Lauzon for the Lauzon vs Kenny Flo fight.

The UFC has a another great Fight Night lined up for us… and the best part, free! Wednesday, April 2nd, Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon will face off live on Spike TV at the Broomfield Event Center, Broomfield, Colorado. Both fighters are rising quickly in the lightweight division.  Lauzon’s coming off an awesome UFC 78 finish over Reinhardt, he wrapped his leg over his arm and sunk a nice rear naked choke to finish his opponent.   Florian’s entering the Octagon with something to prove.  Being that his last fight was a controversial win over Din Thomas at Fight Night 11, we should expect to see Florian coming out strong to make the right impression over the fans.

In addition to Florian and Lauzon facing off, Stephan Bonnar will face off with Matt Hamill, Karo Parisyan will take on Thiago Alves.  Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10AM MST / 9AM PST / 12 EST.

Joe Lauzon just posted a cool teaser on his myspace page.  He stated that “no one believed” him about fighting Karo at UFC 78 and then posted a link to his website with this picture of himself and Karo training for their UFC 78 fights against Jason Reinhardt (Joe fights Jason) and Ryo Chonan (Karo’s fighting Ryo).  Can’t wait for the fights tomorrow night in Newark NJ!

I came across this video today on UFC Mania.  It’s a video of Joe Lauzon, BJ Penn and some other fighters training at BJ’s training camp in Hawaii.  The fighters are practicing fighting in the pocket.  They go into the pocket and take and throw shots for approximately 10 seconds.  It’s an interesting drill to watch, especially because there’s a lot of awkwardness among the fighters while getting use to being in the pocket.  I was pretty surprised by it, but they were catching a few shots.  Check it out yourself on BJ Penn’s website.

FCTV interviews Joe Lauzon in Hilo, Hawaii after the Gracie Proving Grounds. Joe’s been staying in Hawaii for over a week now, has been training, running and jumping off cliffs! Joe plans on staying in Hawaii for about another month to train, go back to the “main land” early November before his UFC 78 fight, train in Boston, and then head back to Hawaii some time in early January. Joe talks about the food and women of Hawaii. We find out that he doesn’t like seafood, so he’s been eating “Mana Burgers”, a burger with an egg on top, and bun that’s like french toast… Healthy Eating!
