Nevada State Athletic Commission Fines Renato “Babalu” Sobral

Monday, September 24th, 2007

ESPN.com reported via Sherdog that the Nevada State Athletic Commission fined Renato “Babalu” Sobral $25,000 for his actions taking place at UFC 74. During his fight with David Heath at UFC 74, Babalu put Heath in an Anaconda Choke and held the choke even after Heath and Referee Steve Mazzagatti tapped Babalu. Consistent with NSAC decision to fine Babalu, Sobral appeared to totally disregard for the rules of the Octagon and more specifically “referee involvement”.

You can listen to the mp3 online, or download it to your ipod (which I like to do – listen while on the treadmill).

Bloodly, Controversial Renato Babalu Sobral vs David Heath UFC 74 Fight

Monday, August 27th, 2007

While watching UFC 74 on Saturday night, did you notice a ton of blood on the mat from a preliminary fight? When the event started off on Pay Per View with Kendall Grove and Patrick Cote, I said to myself, look at all of that blood on the mat – I wonder what fight that was. As it turns out, it was from the Renato Babalu Sobral vs David Heath fight, Bablu rained down some elbows on David Heath, cutting his forehead open. Steve Mazzagatti let the fight went on for some time, but then Bablu put Heath into a choke, gator roll and finally an Anaconda choke. The controversy comes in after David Heath tapped and Renato held on. Even Steve Mazzagatti jumped in and started tapping Babalu, but he held on (out of hatred?) until he know Heath passed out.
