The media has to have a new story each day that’s intriguing enough to get people to tune in… I get that. But why is it that they insist on bringing totally irrelevant labels into the headlines of their stories? The latest story from The Huffington Post is “Jarrod Wyatt Murder Details: MMA Fighter Allegedly Ripped Out Victim’s Heart”. According to their story,”a 26-year-old mixed martial arts fighter”… “[cut] out his victim’s tongue and heart” after taking schrooms and hallucinating. So, at this point the average reader, who knows Kimbo Slice as the face of MMA, is thinking “look what this violent ‘Ultimate Fighter’ did.” Okay, fair enough, you would expect this from someone who knows little about the sport. But, in order to label someone, there needs to be merit. When it comes to sports, I would argue that in order to label a 20 year as a football player, they would have to be playing football in college, not club or intramural football, right? And the same professionally. To be labeled a stock trader I would think you should have your series 7 exam complete and trade, not some guy who’s signed up for scottrade.com and plays the market while working as a customer service agent. And if you agree with all of this, you may agree that the same should be true in order to be labeled a Mixed Martial Artist… and as far as I can dig, there’s no professional record for this guy. So, why associate that profession with a negative topic? Am I wrong, is there more to this guy’s fighting career than Google’s telling me?
Okay, MMA has gotta hella popular in the past few years, and along with the popularity came the money. Now, everyone’s trying to get a piece of the action, including the WWF stars. Their WWF antics have not changed the game yet, however, some hillbillies are trying to give it an extra push with Tag Team MMA, where MMA meets circus acts. Check out the video.
So the big hype on MTV for the past week has been the Guido Beach, “Jersey Shore” reality show. The big talk is how one of the show’s guidettes, Snooki, get’s knocked out by a dude named Brad Ferro at a local Seaside Heights, NJ bar. As it turns out, this disgrace has been KO’d himself. First check out the ridiculous video of a man hitting a woman, followed up with the Karma of his ass getting dropped early in the first.
Dan Quinn is an Internet personality that’s hard to forget. He first hit the scene with a Kimbo Slice challenge, by showing off his boxing skills, then video of his Al Bundy like greatest moment playing football for Notre Dame. Dan then progressed in the MMA community by Hanging out with Diego Sanchez and selling a cure for just about everything. Some may have questioned Quinn in the past, but it’s hard to question video of a guy who made his way into the ring. The tape says it all, Dan Quinn has amazing technique. This guy took a beating for a solid minute, only to tire his opponent out with the barrage of strikes that landed on Quinn’s face and ribs. After which, Dan Quinn executed his plan and finished him off. Way to go!
Shaq apparently has a new television show titled “Shaq Vs.”, which is so awesome that I never even heard of it. Most likely you haven’t either, as recent ratings came in at 2.7/4, with only 4.2 million viewers. Anyway, one of the episodes will feature Shaq vs Oscar De La Hoya in a boxing match. The size difference is absolutely outrategous and from the spoiler it appears that Shaq gets the best of De La Hoya.
During last night’s UFC 101 event, you may have noticed that there was a lot of unexpected cheering going on during the Aaron Riley vs Shane Nelson fight. As Joe Rogan stated during the match, there was a fist fight going on in the crowd among the Philly fans. For those of you who are interested in seeing what took place. Try your best to make out the scene with this footage.
As always, I’m not a fan of street fighting, but when you see something this unique, you just have to post it. A man in a convenience store appears to be minding his own business when two thugs decide to gang up on him and talk trash. Trash talking leads to the two guys getting hyped up and then attacking. While all of this is going on, a wrecking ball in a Reggie Bush jersey comes storming into the store and tears shit up. Check it out.
