Dana White on the Bubba The Lovesponge Show Talks Fedor

Monday, February 16th, 2009

A little over a week ago a number of UFC personalities went on the Bubba the Lovesponge Show, based out of Tampa Florida, while down in Tampa for Fight Night.  Among the people on the show, including Jens Pulver, Sean Sherk, Joe Rogan, Stitch and others, Dana White had an appearance.  A interesting aspect of the conversation was Dana White’s perspective on Fedor coming to the UFC.  Dana stated over all of these years of trying to get him to come to the UFC, he has yet to meet him face to face!

For those of you who are wondering, that picture is Bubba’s wife Heather Clem.

Good Bye Randy… Randy Couture Leaves The UFC!

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

While listening to the Bubba the Lovesponge Show, I heard some shocking news. It was announced that current UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture has resigned from the UFC. Fox news and the Fight Network have confirmed this news. According to the reports, while working on a film in South Africa, Randy sent a letter of resignation to UFC president Dana White. Fight Network reports that Randy stated:

“I’m tired of swimming upstream at this stage with the management of the UFC. It only makes sense at this point in my career to fight Fedor Emelianenko, and since he’s now signed with another organization, I feel like it’s time to resign and focus on my other endeavors.”

Matt Arroyo Live on Bubba The Love Sponge Today

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Today, The Ultimate Fighter 6 contestant Matt Arroyo interviewed with Bubba and his boys, Brent Hatley and Spiceboy. They talked about such topics are Matt Hughes and Matt Serra’s hatred for each other. Matt Arroyo additionally talked about rolling around with his coach – he only had one coach.. no switching going on like last season.

He talked about Dane White’s presence on the show. How Dana matches guys up for two minutes of grappling to determine who makes it to the next round and eventually on to The Ultimate Fighter Show. Dana then cuts it down to two minutes of striking with pads.. If you do well, you make it to the next round. Finally, you prove yourself in front of the spike tv cameras – you need the right personality. He said he was drunk during this process – he intentionally cut off the producers when they asked questions, he acted like a billy bad ass and talked hype about himself (and from what Bubba’s saying, he’s not like that at all).

Gabe Ruediger and Bubba The Love Sponge in a Fight Over Heather Clem

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Currently aspiring UFC fighter and The Ultimate Fighter Contestant Gabe Ruediger is in a fight with Sirius Satellite “shock jock” Bubba the Love Sponge over Bubba’s wife Heather Clem (pictures of Heather Clem and Bubba From St. Petersburg Times below). Apparently Gabe Ruediger made some sexual comments regarding Bubba’s wife – apparently he would like to have sexual relations with Bubba’s wife. The incident further escalated when Bubba requested Gracie Tampa Black Belt Rob Kahn to fight Gabe Ruediger for $1,000 and Rob brushed Bubba off. Today’s BTLS show on Howard 101 should be interesting because of this issue and Dan Henderson will be in the studio!

Funny Thursday Video – Iron Sheik on Sirius with Howard Stern

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

So, this is only slightly mma unrelated, but I thought that it might be nice to post some non-mma threads once in a while that could provide a laugh. I’m a big fan of Howard Stern, Bubba The Love Sponge, and for those of you with a Sirius Satellite Radio, you have to be aware of the Iron Sheik’s arrive at Howard’s Sirius Studio. For those of you who are too young for the Iron Sheik, the Sheik was a AAU Greco-Roman Wrestling Champion in 1971, a very popular WWF wrestler during the 1980′s.  Now adays he’s known for being totally out of control.  This guy get’s totally worked up over wrestlers and wrestling events from the 1980′s – he blows up, starts to say every name in the book, and really needs to slow down before he gives himself a heart attack.  Anyway, Howard Stern Interview’s the Iron Sheik in these videos, while Bubba The Love Sponge tries to work him up a bit.  I think you’ll enough this slightly mma related post.

Brent Hatley vs Joslin Goodman MMA Fight Results

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Finally the true results are in regarding the Bubba the Love Sponge (BTLS) Brent Hatley versus Joslin Goodman fight. Jai from the Stern Fan Network was right.  Bubba stated today that Brent Hatley got his butt kicked. Joslin was 6 feet, 4 inches and built. Apparently Brent trained to fight a 6 feet, 1 inch fighter, which created a bit of a challenge for Brent. The fight lasted 39 seconds, ending in a TKO – Brent went down, but was able to get back up, only to be stopped by the referee.

Results of the BTLS Brent Hatley MMA Fight

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

“Oh Brent Hatley Body Slam!” – Bubba the Lovesponge’s Brent Hatley had his first MMA fight this past weekend. The results have varied among posters at the Stern Fan Network, but the most credible of posts states that Brent lost in the first round via a shin to the head. We won’t know for sure if the statement below is true until tomorrow’s BTLS show, however, here’s what the poster by the name of jai7123 stated:

Brent Hatley BTLS MMA Fight

“Brent lost by TKO in the first round. I saw it, I sat in the center on the 3rd row on the bleachers with my son (in front of concession stand).

Brent’s match was the second last of the night. His opponent was probably 10 years younger and a foot or more higher. Having that reach and speed was too much.

All fighters had shin pads, gloves and headgear. One ref worked all the matches and some lady was the announcer. probably from Brent’s club. The guy in charge of Brent’s club was running the show and they all did a good job.

THE MATCH

They came out at the bell and touched gloves, Brent did not have any offense per se and was kind of feeling things out, crouching kind of. Didn’t throw a kick. They mixed it up with punches in the middle of the ring for about a minute then over a bit to the far neutral corner and move ed towards the near neutral corner (where the stairs were)

Then out of nowhere the opponent cracked Brent across the face with a shin.

Brent went down, got up for what looked like was going to be a standing 8 count.

When Brent got up, he staggered kind of to the right and looked dazed in the neutral corner, the referee called it just like that. Brent was more stunned for a moment than hurt.
Brent was a good sport and congratulated his opponent. He did not look hurt.

Bubba was there with a Packer shirt on (not Farve) and a yellow ballcap. He had reserved seats (metal chairs) and there was a whole row of Bubba, Heather who looked beautiful, her daughter and Tyler with a Peyton Manning shirt on (some others I did not recognize in the VIP row). Bubba and Heather were very cool and nice to anyone that shook hands or said hello. They looked like a class act and a fine family. Bubba, Spice and the rest were all cool, they did not try to steal the show or anything. Just attended like fans to support Brent. I saw the Bubba Raw Cameras there and they were shooting promo stuff on the other side of the ring.

I saw Spice, he had a cap on, 25 Cent (full afro always on phone) and some others I could not name but probably from Bubba’s crew. Brent was in the corner of the gym with his wife when we came in, the camera crew and others came in later. Brent said hello to my son when he saw him in the men’s room. He was cool.

Give Brent credit for having the balls to get in shape and get out there. He was just a overmatched. I thought they might have a little hokey pokey fake stuff going on or maybe they would let Brent win for Bubba Raw. It looked totally on the level, it was the only KO of the night.

I was at the Safety Harbor Community Center with my son early. We watched them set up the ring and things started after 6 15 pm. We got there real early (5 pm) since we wanted to be sure to get seats and did not know what to expect since the place was small. Saw one guy with a Bubba Army shirt, saw Spice go shake his hand.

There were a dozen matches with a short intermission in between. A concession stand and a few tables to the side were selling black t shirts on the left when you walked in. The place got pretty crowded by the time Brent came out.

That’s the honest rundown of it. We came over from Orlando for the weekend and we were glad to have seen the fights and the Bubba gang. ” – Source jai7123, Stern Fan Network
