UFC 85 Fight Card Rumors - Chuck Liddell vs Mauricio “Shogun” Rua

It is currently rumored that UFC 85 will feature a main event fight of Chuck Liddell versus Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.  The event has been rumored to be confirmed by both camps.  In addition to rumors of Chuck Liddell taking on Mauricio Rua, rumors of BJ Penn and Sean Sherk have also surfaced the internet in the past few weeks.  Maybe we’ll even see Brock Lesnar again? Who all is to fight and where, is still unknown.  If you get or have any info, drop a comment.

Mauricio Shogun Rua ACL Surgery a Success

The Fight Network reported yesterday that Mauricio Shogun Rua’s ACL Surgery was a success. Shogun underwent his ACL surgery at the Hospital Vita in Curitiba, Brazil. Doctor Mario Namba, Chief Physician of the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation, performed the operation and stated that the surgery was a success and he expects a fast recovery. In response to his surgery, The Fight Network reports that Shogun stated the following:

“I know about my mistakes in the fight against Forrest,” Rua, 25, said in the release. “I will never use this surgery as an excuse for my lost [sic]. I have all the responsibility for the bad result, now I just want to look for the future. I would like to thank all my fans that are supporting me in this difficult moment and I promise you all that I will be back better than ever. I know that I lost the first battle but not the ‘war’ for the UFC belt.”

Forrest Griffin Post UFC 76 Fight Video Interview About Shogun Fight

In this recent post fight (UFC 76) interview with stitched up Forrest Griffin, Forrest talks about his fight with Mauricio Shogun Rua.  Forrest states that it was a good fight, he worked on a lot of things that Shogun does well, however, he still made some mistakes, such as not cutting the corners well.  Forrest was very surprised that he got has tired as he did, he knows that he was in better shape than that, but the pace really tired him out.  He says that the blood from his cut was the first time that blood really affected his game.  Check out the full interview and take note of Forrest humor when he jokes about his post fight celebration dance - you’ll get a kick out of it.

After sizing up Mauricio Shogun Rua, Forrest Griffin’s first impression is, “Man, I really want to fight that guy” and he can make it happen, being that Shogun is now fighting for the UFC. Shogun Rua will have to adjust to some new rules with this transition from Pride to the UFC. Shogun Rua knows that his first fight for the USA, in America must be good - he has something to prove. He’s a devastating striker and he has to make a lasting impression on the UFC crowd. The results will be known on September 22, 2007 when UFC 76 goes live at the Honda Center in CA.

MMA Today interviewed Forrest Griffin about his upcoming Mauricio Shogun Rua UFC 76 Fight. Forrest stated that he likes the way Shogun fights, he thinks that he is one of the best or the best, but it’s a good match up for him - Forrest thinks his foot work is better, he has a longer reach than Shogun. Overall he feels that he’s in shape and prepared for the fight physically - he’s constantly working on his drills so that they become instinct - he doesn’t do any mental training. He’s said that he’s stopped being a “cheap ass” and is now seeking professional help from other trainers to prepare him for the Shogun fight. He’s currently working with Ron Frazier, the Boxing Coach from Xtreme Couture. Check out the interview below:

The UFC 76 will take place Saturday September 22nd Live on Pay Per View at 10PM EST.  The Fight Card looks exciting but a bit one sided.  Chuck Liddell to take on Keith Jardine - I don’t know about this one… I have a hard time seeing Keith last past the 1st round, but who knows, he surprised me against Forrest (no comparison to Chuck, but still).  And Shogun vs. Forrest.. I’m sorry Forrest, this is going to be your toughest fight.
