Kimbo Slice “sets the sport back” - Frank Mir
Five Ounces of Pain recently interviewed The Ultimate Fight Coach and UFC Former Champ Frank Mir. Among the things said was the outstanding quote;
“Let’s face it, the public’s perception of MMA is not exactly fantastic. Every time guys like Tank Abbot or Krazy Horse (Charles Bennett) fought or even now with Kimbo Slice; every time Kimbo fights it sets the sport back. Guys like that just reinforce the idea in the public’s eye that we are all blood thirsty barbarians who just want to pummel each other and that there is no skill required. Guys like them do the sport a disservice.” - Frank Mir
Let’s face it, Frank Mir is a pretty bright fighter, but would you agree with such a statement?

I agree with Frank on this one. MMA is not just about brute force and who can punch harder. Kimbo slice, among other heavyweights, focus more on a physical side of MMA and less on the mental side. The ground game is where the majority of the skill comes out. And for that reason Frank Mir is one of my favorite fighters. He can easily submit almost any fighter due to their lack of a ground game.
