ProElite / EliteXC Promotion Is Out Of Business… What does this mean for CBS Saturday Night Fights?

Bookmark and Share

Kimbo Slice will no longer fight for the ProElite / EliteXC promotion, not by choice, but simply for the fact that ProElite has gone out of business.  For those of you who don’t know the business relationship between EliteXC and ProElite, ProElite was a media company founded by the partnership of Showtime Networks and EliteXC.  After being founded, CBS joined the partnership being granted the rights to broadcast 4 EliteXC events as Saturday Night Fights.  In September Showtime Network which owned 20% in the company, wished to gain a larger and controlling portion of the company.  According to Sports Illustrated, “When those negotiations failed, said a source inside ProElite who asked not to be identified, funding dried up and the company was forced out of business.” So, folks, it looks like Kimbo Slice won’t be fighting Seth in a rematch on CBS any time soon.  Will CBS work out some deal with EliteXC along, only the future will tell.

I think kimbo’s done, permanently. He needed the hype of a youtube brawler legend that could punch people out in mma. With all the hype gone after his last two fights, who is going to sign him as a legitimate fighter? Most of the non-ufc promotions are small or dying…

On top of that, even if someone does sign him, there’s no way they’ll pay him 500,000 like his last fight. He’s not a big draw now that people have seen him lose badly. Ignorant fans were interested in him because they thought he was a top heavyweight, but now they know he’s not, he’s not as interesting anymore.

Plus, kimbo’s dumbshit posse doesn’t seem like the type to want anything less than hundreds of thousands for his next fight. They were the same guys to demand last minute bonus money for him to accept the Seth fight.

People think he could go Affliction, but nah that doesn’t make sense. I say he won’t fight again.

Bas wants to start Kimbo from the bottom and work his way up. The UFC would be a perfect place for this, but Dana doesn’t seem to want anything to do with Kimbo. However, he did mention once, whether it was a joke or not, I’m not 100% certain, but he said that if Kimbo wants to enter the UFC, he’ll have to go on TUF. This could be a good, but humble move for Slice’s professional career if he’s thinking more than a pay day.
