Mark Coleman Talks About Upcoming Fight Against Mauricio Shogun Rua
One January 17th, MMA Legend Mark Coleman will enter the ring for the first time in over two years. His last fight against Fedor Emelianenko ended in a second round loss to Fedor via armbar. Almost three years from after his first fight and victory (round 1 TKO) over Mauricio Shogun Rua, Mark Coleman will once again face off against Rua. At an age of 44 and two years off from fighting, many question what Coleman has been doing with his time off and whether or not he will be prepared to enter the ring. Coleman stated to AOL Sports, “I needed some time off after the Fedor fight. I had so many injuries, I needed a break mentally and physically…. I’ve continued to work out in the gym, but I also got a chance to spend a lot of time with my daughters, which was very important to me.” So refreshed and ready to enter the ring once again, will Coleman be able to get back into the sport at an age of 45, and if so, how many fights does he have in him? Coleman states “I don’t plan on retiring any time soon. This is what I love to do. I enjoy staying in shape. I love working out. I don’t look forward to retiring.”
Best of luck to Coleman, he’s going to need it. As we’ve seen over and over again in sports, coming back after several years off is no easy task, especially when age isn’t on your side. But if he does pull it off, there’s a good opportunity for Coleman to face off with Chuck Liddell at UFC 96 in Columbus, Ohio, something all UFC loves would love to see.
